STRENGTH-DURATION RELATIONSHIP FOR MORTAR

In this study a correlation is tried to formulate between strength and duration for mortar. For this purpose same quality of cement and sands of two different FM are selected.  W/C ratio is kept constant. Data is collected at different duration. It is seen from the study that 40% more strength is observed at 7 days with respect to 3days, 25% more strength is observed at 14 days with respect to 7 days and 10% more strength is observed at 28 days with respect to 14 days. Detailed result is presented in terms of equation and graph.

The ratio of mix plays an important role in acquiring strength. The strength of 15.3 Mpa is observed in the mortar of 1:2.5 in 7 days where strength of 8.2 Mpa is observed in the mortar of 1:3 and where strength of 7.36 Mpa is observed in the mortar of 1:3.5 ratios.
It is also found from the study that the mortar of finer sand acquire less compressive strength than the mortar of coarser sand. It can also be noted that curing is very much important for acquiring compressive strength for mortar.
